My new Ethiopian flag

The Ethiopian flag is boring and badly needs a remake. Not only the flag is boring, the color combination is hideous. That is why I do not adorn this blog with the green, yellow and red tricolors. I have a feeling there will be a new Ethiopian flag in the not too distant future. So, let me get a head start with my suggestion for a new Ethiopian flag. There is no concept behind the design. The color choices are simply based on the colors for the banner of this blog. The bull's eye in the middle (with the dreaded tricolor) is meant to signify a connection to the past. There you have it. Did I mention that the Ethiopian flag is boring?

Oh no, by any means don't change the Ethiopian flag! I don't find it boring at all: I love its vibrant colours...

I agree. As a Black woman, the Ethiopian flag has particular significance to me. I know that almost all African countries have used the tricolors to show that we are not the vassals of Europe, but are all burnt face peoples...Ethiopians. Also the flag has historical and spiritual meaning. The tricolors are the three basic hues of the rainbow and symbolize God's covenant of mercy with humankind made at the time of St. Noah. Just as the Lion of Judah on the old version symbolizes his covenant with David and the coming of the Messiah - the Savior of humankind. PLEASE DON'T CHANGE IT!

The Ethiopian flag is boring . . . . I totally disagree. To me, there is nothing colorful like the Green, Yellow and Red. A flag is not a T-shirt, a car, an iPhone or a laptop that you change its color every time you are bored with it. A flag carries the message of our ancestors to us and our message to posterity. When I see the Ethiopian flag, there is something that goes all over me. This something is heroism, sacrifice, love, prosperity, and the spirit of being an Ethiopian. I grew up in Awassa and every time I see the flag, Awassa and my childhood will come right to my eyes. If I allow a remake of our flag, all of these values will be lost. How do we relate our past to our present and our present to our future with a flag that changes? I’m eternally tied to the flag. If you are fond of change, change the ugly face of Ethiopia- get rid of the TPLF and get rid of the ambasha from the flag. That is the only change our flag m needs.
How do we measure the value of our flag? Lets’ be as shallow as we can be and decide to change its color because it boring. Is there anything subjective as the word “boring”? Don’t forget your ‘boring’ can be something that I adore, and something I adore can be boring to you (in this case, the color of our flag). So who decides the look of our flag? 90 million people? What about those who died for the flag? Specially, what about Zerai Deres? Do you think the color of our flag was boring to Zerzi Deres? Our flag carries countless values like this. Please don’t mess with the flag.
